Gloria M. Contreras, 89

Gloria M. Contreras passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 12, 2025. She is reunited in death with her beloved husband of 61 years, Sabas (Joe) Contreras, sisters Teresa Avila, Esperanza “Rose” Cervantez, Eloisa “Chita” Nunez, Rebecca Navarro, and brothers Rufino “Jr” Avila, and Donald “Donny” Avila.

She is survived by her siblings, Patricia Sanz, Jane Adams, Rudy (Joan) Avila, Robert (Kay) Avila, and Raul (Mashelle) Acosta; her three beloved children, Steven (Linda) Contreras, Di-Anna Cruz, and Jo-Anna Contreras (Alfonso Becerra); her eight grandchildren, Joy Landess-Busse, Shila Hernandez (John Lentis), Teresa “Cha-Cha” Rodriguez, Alicia Rodriguez, Cosme Contreras, Maximino Contreras, Vidal Becerra, and Stephanie Contreras; 19 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and their children who were also dear to her heart.

As the matriarch of her family, she will be remembered as a warm, affectionate, loving mother and grandmother, and the hardest working woman we knew. She loved cooking and baking for her family and entertaining everyone at gatherings where her feistiness and quick-witted humor were always on full display. She had a passion for flower gardening, loved the outdoors, and all critters large and small. She will be eternally missed, but her zest for life and loving devotion to family are the legacies she leaves behind that we will carry within us forever.

Visitation and Service will be held at Korisko Larkin Staskiewicz Funeral Home, 5108 “F” Street, Omaha, NE, 68117. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, between 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Dinner following the Service will be at G.I. Forum, 2002 “N” Street, Omaha, NE. Internment will take place on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at the Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Road, Omaha, NE 68138.
