Allen J. Rezac, 77
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Allen “Al” James Rezac, a proud United States Army veteran and retired Teamster, whose kindness, hard work, and unwavering loyalty left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Al was known for his sharp wit, strong sense of humor, and his genuine ability to connect with people.
Preceded in death by parents, William and Celestine Rezac and brother, Donald.
He is survived by his sister, Jane Stastny; brother, Dean Rezac (Andrea “Candy”); nieces and nephews, Angela Stastny, Ronald Stastny, Theresa Stastny (Simon Makoman), and Jason Rezac (Maureen). He was also a great-uncle to Patrick and Joey Landolt, and his great-nieces AJ and Luna Rezac whose laughter and energy always brought him joy.
Al was born the youngest of four children to William and Celestine Rezac in North Bend, Nebraska. The Rezacs located to South Omaha when Al was a child where he attended Vinton and Omaha South High Schools.
After high school, he served honorably in the U.S. Army. He made the most of his service abroad taking in the cultures and sites while stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Al returned to Omaha working for Hawkins Construction and then had a dedicated career as a Teamster with D.R. Anderson Construction.
Seeking peace, quiet, and a life out of the city to be lived on his own terms, Al made his home along the banks of the Missouri River at Iske Park, in La Platte. There, he found the freedom that comes with life on the river enjoying the simple things in life like fishing, long boat rides, chopping firewood for his wood burning stove… all with his faithful black lab, Duke at his side. There was also a late-night poker game fueled by Yukon Jack with the other “River Rats” from time to time as well.
Eventually, after enduring several floods on the river, he returned to South Omaha, where his sense of community shone through. Al spent many days volunteering with his brother Dean clearing trees and beautifying Collin Field, tending to his friends and neighbors’ lawns in the summer and clearing their sidewalks when it snowed. He was always available to help with or lend a tool for any project, big or small.
Al enjoyed travelling to Vegas, taking regular road trips to Kansas City, and relaxing with a cold Bud Light with friends at the D.A.V., one of the neighborhood bars near his home, or simply sitting on his deck.
Al was a devoted friend and family member. His easy attitude and selfless nature will be remembered by all.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 7th, from 9:00am to 11:00am, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am at Korisko Larkin Staskiewicz Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will take place at Omaha National Cemetery at 2:30pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family and will be given to the Teamster 554 Charitable Trust scholarship fund in Al’s name.
