Evelyn Ann Nabity (Ference), 93
Evelyn Ann Nabity, a lifelong care giver, graced this world with her presence for 93 remarkable years. On January 16, 2025, she peacefully passed away, leaving behind a legacy of giving and caring for others.
Evelyn was the first born of John and Anna (Lech) Ference. She was born in Ashton, NE on November 25, 1931. She was raised on a farm in Loup City, NE with her siblings: Donald, Camille, Ann, and Delphine. Evelyn attended school in Loup City, graduating from High School on May 18th, 1945.
She started her care giving career working at Scared Heart Hospital and Sisters of St. Joseph’s in Loup City, NE and St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, NE. Through a coworker, who later became her sister-in-law, Evelyn met the love of her life, LaVerne.
Evelyn and LaVerne were married on May 6th, 1953, in Ashton, NE. Their married life started in Del Rio, TX where LaVerne was stationed with the Air Force. Evelyn continued working as nurse’s aide in Del Rio until their first child was born.
Evelyn continued her care giving career after moving to Omaha with LaVerne. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital while expanding her family. She had twelve children: Betty, Robert, Gary, Mark, Dwayne, Kathy, Alan, Patty, Phillip, twins: Cindy and Sandy, and Mary Chris.
Throughout her life, Evelyn gave of her time unconditionally. She volunteered countless hours at St. Bridget’s, the school her children attended. She also served on many church committees, organized monthly card parties, and cleaned the church and candles weekly for decades. Evelyn continued her care giving, not only to her own family, but she also cared for many elderly clients.
Evelyn and LaVerne were married for 50 years. Evelyn would tell others that she had 12 children, but only by one man! She traveled with her husband, even after LaVerne passed away in 2004, to visit her children and grandchildren, who lived in other states. She loved caring for her children and grandchildren. She was a great baker and cook. Everyone loved her cinnamon rolls. She would have to hide them to have any left for the next day!
As we remember Evelyn, a strong religious woman, always giving of herself tirelessly, we celebrate a life well lived, a love well shared and a legacy that will forever live in our hearts inspiring us.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband LaVerne; her children: Gary, Alan and Cindy; great granddaughter Faith Marie; and her brother Don.
She is survived by her children: Betty Rubek, Robert (Jutta), Mark, Dwayne, Kathy (Damian) Wells, Mary Nabity (wife of Alan), Patty (Jamie) Brock, Phillip (Tracey), Sandy (Tony) Burrows, and Mary Chris Rose; 23 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters.
Evelyn Ann Nabity, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a gracious caregiver, we love you always and forever.
