Gabriel "Gabe" Gomez, 93

Gabriel "Gabe" Gomez, affectionately known as Uncle Gabe, was born on January 6, 1931, in Omaha, NE, as the youngest of seven children in the Gomez family. Gabe was cherished by all who knew him for his kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit.

In 1951, Gabe enlisted in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he served with distinction, contributing to constructing military facilities in The Bahamas. His time in the service was marked by a dedication to his work and the bonds he formed with fellow servicemen.

On May 11, 1957, Gabe married the love of his life, Dolores Ann Garcia. Their shared passions for dancing and travel created a lifetime of cherished memories. Together, they took their children, Patrice and Steve, on unforgettable road trips to California and Guadalajara, instilling a sense of adventure in them. Later, they continued this tradition with their grandchildren, exploring the Midwest on family road trips.

After a dedicated 30-year career at Swift, Gabe embraced retirement by focusing on what he loved most—his family. He became a devoted caregiver to his grandchildren, taking joy in hosting summer cookouts that brought the whole family together. Gabe was a master in the kitchen, teaching his loved ones the art of cooking with a blend of subtlety and joy.

Gabe was preceded in death by his mother Altagracia Gomez, sisters Margaret Guerra and Marie Arrieta, his brothers Ed, Pete and Mark Gomez. Survived by wife Dolores, daughter Patrice Gomez, son Steve Gomez, sister Lillian Andrade, nephew Jaime Andrade, grandchildren Angelique Walstrom, Brenton Gomez, Margeaux Gomez, and Xander Downs.

Gabe's life was centered around his beloved wife Dee, the joy of dancing, his passion for movies, and, above all, the deep love he had for his family. His legacy of love, laughter, and warmth will forever remain in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.

Steve Knight, the drummer for Luigi Inc. said Gabe had “Quiet Confidence. His confidence came from him being comfortable in his own skin thus making others feel comfortable and welcome.”
