James John Peroutka, Sr. passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024 in Omaha, Nebraka at the age of 90 years.
He was preceded in death by wife Dee Anne Peroutka; parents, Joseph and Anna; brothers: Jerry, Joseph, Louis, and George; sisters: Marie Nixon, Augusta Goldax, Luella Eich, and Rose Cwirko; former wife: Eva Peroutka.
Survivors include his children: James Peroutka Jr. (Julie), Joseph Peroutka, and Janine Peroutka (Kris); grandsons: James, John, and Jeffery; step-daughters: Becky Staiert (Thomas), Tammy Adams (John), and Bobbi Scott; many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
James was born the eight of nine children on May 11, 1934, in Omaha, Nebraska to hard working Czech immigrants, who were lifeland South Omaha residents. James attended grade school at St. Mary's Catholic School and remained strong in his Catholic faith throughout his life. As a young child, James took up jobs as a golf caddy, often walking and hitching rides long distances to local golf courses, where his lifelong passion for golf began. We all loved his stories as he fondly recalled his time as a caddy at Happy Hollow Country Club. James graduated from Omaha South High School in 1953. After high school, James entered the U. S. Marines on 1953, serving 3 years. He was deployed to Korea and spent time in Japan. During his tour of duty in the Marines, James was trained in security. After his service duty ended in 1956, James returned home to South Omaha. He met and married Eva Lorentzen. As a young adult, James began his lifelong career, initially in security, at Western Electric. James and Eva resided in South Omaha where they belonged to St. Stanislaus Parish. There they raised their three children, James, Joseph, and Janine. After 20 years of marriage, James and Eva divorced, retaining a life long friendship.
James later married Dee Anne Scott, enjoying nearly 40 years together, living in South Omaha, Millard, Council Bluffs, IA and settling in their last home, in Omaha, where James and Dee were parishoners at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Throughout James' life he enjoyed golf, nature walks in Fontenelle Forest, fishing, long walks at local parks, and all his time spent with family. He provided wisdom and guidance to his three children as well as his three grandsons, who lovingly cherished their time with "Gramps". James was a man of strong faith and always enjoyed sharing his Catholic faith with family and friends as well as his many stories of his early days caddying at the local Omaha golf courses. James was a hard worker, who provided well for his family. James was always considerate of family and friends. During his final days, James expressed his heartfelt endearing love and gratitude for his family and friends saying: "I love you all. Thank you all for your hard work. Take care of yourselves. Take care of your children." We were all privileged and are thankful to have shared James' long life journey with him.
