Daniel C. Lee, Jr., 77
Daniel passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife and sons after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia.
Dan was born on May 25, 1947 to proud parents Daniel C. Lee Sr and Mary Jane Stekar Lee in Fargo, North Dakota. Dan was the only son among four sisters: Ellen, Dorothy, Julianna and Cecilia.
In 1969, Dan enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War, where he was assigned to handle ammunition. However, equipped with a camera, he spent his time In Vietnam documenting the challenges of war, while also photographing the small things that brought joy to him and fellow soldiers.
Dan’s life took a new turn when he married Janet Forman on September 25, 1976. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising four rambunctious sons: Aaron, Adam, Jacob, and Joshua. A man of strong faith, Dan was not just a father, but a teacher, guiding his sons through words and actions, instilling in them the importance of standing up for their beliefs and doing so with unwavering spirit, always mixed with a bit of humor.
In his professional life, Dan joined the U.S. Postal Service and walked mile after mile for 36 years, delivering mail, packages, and little doses of his humor and thoughts on life to Ashland and Omaha, Nebraska communities.
Dan always had a camera in hand, ready to document the life he built with Janet and the natural world around him. Over the years, he was privileged to photograph many senior high school portraits, weddings, and his favorite subjects: his sons, their wives, and grandchildren.
In his spare time, Dan enjoyed staying active with his children and grandchildren by fishing, camping and biking. He could be found scoping out cars in the newspaper to clean up and sell for a little extra money.
His family will best remember Dan for his sense of humor, strong faith, love of very strong coffee, and unwavering devotion to his family. They will cherish the thousands of photographs Dan leaves behind documenting his life story.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ellen Gingras, brother-in-law Vincent Saverino, nephews Antonio Saverino and Scott Forman.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet, sons, Aaron (Gina), Adam (Kelly), Jacob (Andrea), and Joshua of MD, 18 grandchildren, sisters, Dorothy Saverino, Julie (Larry) Fellows, Cecilia (Ralph) Brown; many nieces and nephews and life-long friends.
