Nellie M. D'Agosta, 103
Nellie was the third and youngest child born to Sicilian immigrants, Rose and Frank Sesto, in Omaha, Nebraska on November 9, 1920. After graduating from Central High School in Omaha, she married Charles D’Agosta Sr. They had one son, Charles Jr. Nellie continued her education which led to a long and fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse.
One hundred and three years is a lot of living and Nellie made the most of every single day. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, fishing and attending baseball games together. Nellie also had many hobbies and passions including crocheting, sewing and of course cooking. After she retired from nursing, Nellie volunteered her time and talents at the Red Cross. Nellie was whip smart, possessed expert organization skills and had a great sense of humor. She insisted on always having her front door wide open so she could keep her eye out for the safety of her neighbors and to welcome family, friends and the occasional salesman who might drop by. If you were fortunate to be invited inside, you were immediately served with a cup of coffee, a homemade dessert and if you were there on Sunday, a huge dish of pasta and meatballs.
Nellie will be remembered for her fierce love and devotion to her family, her Catholic faith and the many poodles she raised. She lived an exemplary life, provided endless examples of how to care for oneself and those she loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Pasqua Randazzo; brother, Joe Sesto; husband Charles D’Agosta Sr.; son, Charles D’Agosta Jr.; former daughter-in-law, Fina D’Agosta; her grandchildren, Danny D’Agosta and Teresa D’Agosta.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Christine (John) Sortino, Chuck (Michelle) D’Agosta and Patty (Tony) Nogg; great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, many friends and her beloved dog, Becky.
Memorials may be directed to St. Thomas More or to one of Nellie’s favorite charities, St. Jude Hospital or the Nebraska Humane Society. |
