Patricia M. Roman, 85

Pat was born at home on February 10, 1939 during a blizzard to Al and Margaret Barry. At that time, they lived with her dear grandmother near St. Agnes Church. They moved to Bellevue Boulevard with the neighbor’s horses at the end of their big backyard. She loved exploring Fontenelle Forest. She had a lousy sense of direction but somehow knew her way around the Forest. Maybe that started her strong sense of faith!

She met the love of her life, Marion Roman, at Bosanek’s Grocery Store, where he worked. They celebrated 60 years of marriage on December 27, 2018. He died on February 8, 2019. Marion and Pat raised their four children on Primrose Lane in Bellevue and bought their cabin at Hansons Lake in 1978. The cabin (called that by the family even after it grew into a beautiful home) was the main gathering place for family get togethers. Pat always had delicious food and many goodies and drinks bought especially for her kids and grandkids. Marion and Pat loved living at Hanson’s Lake full-time starting in the 1990’s and traveling to many places including yearly trips to South Padre Island. They had many cherished friends all through their lives.

Pat loved being a mom and instilled in her children a very strong sense of love for the family. She was happiest when her kids, grandkids and great grandkids were visiting. Or when she had a visit with a dog! Such a love for dogs! And pretty birds!

Pat talked about experiencing a profound sense of peace whenever in church. She said that when she was young, she would walk up to St. Agnes and just sit in church. She experienced that same sense of profound peace when she would go to Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Church with Margie. She experienced many challenges in her life but they strengthened her faith and dependence on God. She had a very special friend in St. Padre Pio. She asked him for intercessory prayers so she could cheer up quite often! She said she would cheer up fairly soon after that request.

She was preceded in death by parents Al and Margaret Barry; husband, Marion; son Bernie; sister Diane (Bob) Stander; nephew Rob Stander.

Those left to cherish her memory are Margie (Howard) Nelsen, Kris (Dan) McElligott, Jennie Roman, Bob Cote; grandchildren Seth (Jen) Nelsen, Shelby (Wes) Connell, David (Tori) McElligott, Kelly (Sam) Mapes, Michael McElligott, Jordan (Conner) Huffine, Zac, and Jonathan Cote; great grandchildren Liam McElligott, Nora Connell, and Elijah Nelsen; and her brother Dick (Barb) Barry, 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
