Barbara  S.  Holman
July 23, 1952 -  January 25, 2024

Barbara S. Holman, 71

Preceded in death by Bruce Holman (husband), Paul Calvert (father), Betty Calvert (mother), and Terry Calvert (brother)
Survived by Doyle B. Ollis (son) and Angela, Denise M. Wuerfele (daughter) and Dylan
grandsons; Alex P. Abel, Caleb B. Ollis and Collin D. Ollis.
William "Butch" Calvert (brother) and Sam, Roxanne "Rocky" Bumgarner (sister) and Charles.

Barbara was born on July 23, 1952, in Banner Elk, North Carolina. She attended schools in Avery County, NC and graduated from Avery County High School in 1971.

She met Bruce in Charleston, SC and they were married in Guam on Sept. 22nd, 1978 and celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary at Charleston's (fitting isn't it) on Sept. 22nd, 2023, with family. They traveled the world together with stops in SC, Guam, Nebraska, Japan, SC again, Okinawa and Nebraska again before retired in Bellevue.

Barb loved to do word search puzzles with her grandsons, and she loved coloring. She had hundreds of markers, colored pencils, and pens to go with her endless supply of coloring books. She loved Bingo and playing cards, though she was probably a little too competitive. She attended bingo with her friend Kathy and after her stay at Mable Rose was over, she would go back and volunteer to call Bingo with her "bingo ladies". She never passed up a chance for a "friendly game" of Spades or Hearts.

She was a member of Spirit Life Assembly of God (formerly Southside Assembly of God) for 30+ years and loved being part of the ladies Tuesday morning bible study. She served in the nurseries of different churches over the years and as a Sunday School teacher. She loved going to church with Bruce and making sure her children were there when they were young.

Barbara had many, many friends but was especially close with Machelle, her best friend, and her sister Roxanne. Later in life, she would talk to them daily. Mom and Denise were sometimes more like sisters than mother and daughter. They shared a bond that only a mother and daughter can share. They were so much alike that it ws quite entertaining to see them together.

Finally, Barb loved Bruce. We didn't truly know the depth of their love until he was gone. She was lost without him once he went to be with Jesus. She loved to eat out and she loved Sweet Tea and Chicken Sandwiches. If you wanted to put a smile on her face, a tea and"sammich" always did it (a popular technique by Doyle). She loved her family and grandsons beyond measure.
Barb will be missed by all who knew her; she was a social butterfly and a ray of sunshine to all around her, but there is comfort and peace in knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Well done my good and faithful servant, well done.
