Darrell D. Vorthmann, 64
Darrell D. Vorthmann was born on November 24th, 1959 in Missouri Valley, IA to Paul and Margaret (Brich) Vorthmann and was the 3rd oldest of 10 siblings. He grew up on the family farm until he graduated from Mo. Valley High School in 1978. Darrell served in the US Army as a Helicopter Crew Chief from 1978-1981. He worked hard to support his family, working odd jobs and living off the land, farming, hunting, fishing ,and trapping. He worked as a union steamfitter for the last 24 years. Most recently was enjoying his role as Foreman and was very proud of his accomplishments as a steamfitter.
Darrell had great mechanical aptitude and had a creative solution for any problem. He could build anything and was always busy making things. He had a great sense of fun; one winter he used a tractor to make a huge snow fort and once he turned an entire hillside into a slip 'n' slide. Darrell loved the color pink and had his own unique sense of style. He loved to garden and his yard was always full of vegetables and flowers.
Darrell died on Monday, January 22, 2024 at his home in Omaha, NE at the age of 64.
Darrell was preceded in death by his father Paul J. Vorthmann and son Zachary Vorthmann.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Vorthmann, his wife Patti Sowokinos, three children, Sarah (Justin) Mohn, Mathew Vorthmann, and Jill (James) Vorthmann; Stepson Mark ( Kiki) Sowokinos; 4 grandchildren Quinn, Rebecca, Evelyn, and Kayden; brothers, Paul Vorthmann, Dave (Pennie) Vorthmann, Tom (Dawn) Vorthmann, and Rex (Christie) Vorthmann; Sisters, Kathy (Patrick) Minikus, Donna Mark, Lou Ann (Curt) Phillips, Mary (Hame) Arbane, and Cindy Hallett; and many other friends and relatives.
Darrell deeply loved his family.
