Deacon Franklin  D.  Mascarello
November 25, 1936 -  January 2, 2024

Deacon Franklin D. Mascarello, 87

Franklin Delano Mascarello was born November 25, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1954, he met and married the love of his life, Judith M. (Simanek) Mascarello. Together they raised six children. He was an amazing dad, friend, and confidant to all of his kids. He enjoyed hunting, camping with family and friends, and fishing.

Frank became involved with the Boy Scouts of America and his guidance impacted the lives of many boys in the South Omaha area. Frank and Judy were very active within the square dance community. He loved dancing and they traveled and danced with their club for several years. In the fall of 1983, Frank was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church and served on the altar at Our Lady of Lourdes in Omaha and St. Columbkille in Papillion. Serving God and his church was an integral part of his life, and he did this with an amazing amount of spirituality, grace, and compassion.

He had recently started doing home visits again and told us all on many occasions, how honored he felt to be sharing his spirituality with these people, who he said were giving more to him than he thought he could ever give to them. He felt so blessed as he said they helped him learn it was okay to live his life again after the love of his life had passed. Frank worked for many years at Drake Williams Steel as their accountant, and for Fehr’s Tractor.

After retiring, he continued ministering to others as the Hospital Chaplin at CHI and Methodist Hospitals. He loved to travel and experience new places and would share stories about his adventures with everyone. He often said that throughout those travels he was blessed to experience many God Moments, as he called them, and frequently used them as part of his Sunday homilies.

Frank is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Judith Mascarello, and is survived by his children, Frank Jr. (Teresa) Mascarello of Omaha, NE, Debbra (Joe) Kuberka of Seattle, WA, Michelle (Scott) Mell of Auburn, WA, James (Connie) Mascarello of Columbus, NE, Lisa (Todd) Scheitel of Norwalk, IA, and Anthony (Amie) Mascarello of Omaha, NE; 25 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings Jennie Welna, of Nebraska and Marie Sacco, of California.

Frank is also preceded in death by his grandson Franklin Mascarello III and great grandchild Madison Tuzzio; brothers Phil, Jim, Pete and Ernie and sisters, Virginia and Theresa.
