Ruth was born and grew up in Omaha, Nebraska where she attended Omaha South School. She was the oldest of 3 girls of 2nd generation Polish-American John F. “Duke” Dwornicki and Polish immigrant Ann Jamrozy. After high school she worked in a printer’s shop and soon met Airman Robert Rehwinkle who was from Minnesota and was at the time stationed at Offutt AFB. They were married on 2-25-1952. Nine months later their first child John was born in the base hospital. Not too much time later, she traveled while pregnant by her self with 1 year old John in tow by train across America. They then traveled by boat across the wide Pacific to join her husband in post-war Japan. There on Dec. 12, 1954 her second son Edward was born. They lived the life of a military family with postings overseas and many places in the US.

After separating from her husband in 1970, she returned to Omaha with still high schooler Ed. She worked at various clerical jobs, among them a clerk at Douglas County Hospital and finally a secretary and then as Volunteer Coordinator at the Red Cross. She retired from the Red Cross in 1992.

Ruth was an avid gardener and devoted to the Lord. She loved her brother and sister Christians at Bethel Lutheran Church, where from time to time she led Bible Studies.

In her declining years, she lived with her son Edward. Dying at home of congestive heart failure on December 31st, 2023 at the age of 93. Her son John, who lived close by, was also in attendance at the time she passed away.

Besides her sons John and Ed, she is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
