Victoria F. Driml (Visty), 95

Victoria Frances Driml of Omaha, Nebraska passed away in her home at The Waterford at Roxbury Park on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the age of 95 years. She was born October 12, 1922 in a cement brick house at 4140 ‘V’ Street in Omaha. When she was 5 years old, her mom and dad, Josephine and Boris Visty, moved the family to a home at 3948 ‘R’ Street. Victoria met Louis “Lou” Driml and they later married on October 13, 1942 while he was on leave from the US Army. They were married for 62 years until Lou died in 2004. They raised 5 children in that same ‘R’ Street home.
Victoria enjoyed going to picnics and dances, mostly at Sokol Hall on 13th and Martha Streets in Omaha or near La Platte, Nebraska. None of the people in her “group” really dated each other. She knew Lou from seeing him in the bands he played with. One day at the record store where he worked, Lou had her listen to a “new” song, “In the Mood” and that led to their first date. Lou left for the war in January 1943 and did not return home until November 1945. She “lived for his letters to come.”
Victoria always said she “was very blessed to have (her) children and all of (her) grandchildren and great grandchildren. And they are all such great kids, the boys and the girls.” She said “I’ve lived a good long life.”
The memories she shared through the years and recently included how she would work at her dad’s factory after school making ties or caps. She loved the cabins at South Bend and Hansen
Lakes. Many of the family and friends had so much fun there. She talked about going to St. Mary’s School, then Omaha South High, graduating in only 3 years by attending summer school.
Everyone knows that Victoria was a great letter writer and card sender, sending them for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, get well, ‘good job’ and just because she was thinking of you. She sent her family Valentine and a Halloween card with a dollar in it, they always looked forward to them in the mail. She has written her last letter, and sent her last card…She is forever loved and missed by those she cared so deeply for.
